Book Review: Crown of Midnight by S.J.Maas (Throne of glass #2)

"You'll figure it out. And when you do... When you do, I want you to remember that it wouldn't have made any difference to me. It's never made any difference to me when it came to you. I'd still pick you. I'll always pick you."

Crown of Midnight is how sequels ought to be.

It's brutal and tender and heartbreaking. It grabs you by the front of your shirt and yells all its terrible truths at your face. And when you fall on your knees, too weak to even breath, it pats your shoulder and tells you everything is not going to be fine.

It's the book where things are starting to get serious. And the book where we get some pretty serious answers. Answers that lead to even more questions, but... well you can't have it all you know. The writing is pretty good and I enjoyed all the POVs as they filled in the blanks of each other, making the scenes whole. They also helped in viewing the character developement.

So, in this second book we see why Celaena is Adarlan's Assassin. She is stealthy, and fast and just plain badass. But she is also cocky, and stubborn and so full of herself. But you know what? It's what makes her a great character, because it makes her look real. There is no one person that we love everything about, so in order for us to bond with her, she can't be perfect. And she isn't. She is just a girl who got too famous and too rich very fast. The interesting thing is that all the things that made her life a living hell, are the ones that keep her bound to her humanity.

Oh, and about the boyfriend issue: There can really be only one team in this book, and it is Team Chaol.
